dandabhanga leela bhumi dwadash bhuja gauranga chaitanya

Acharya dharmam paricharya visnum
Vicharya tirthani vicharya vedan
Vina na Gaura priyapada sevam
Vedadi dusprapa padam vidanti
(Chaitanya Chandramrita, Text 22)

Those who follow the rules of varnasrama dharma and occupational duties, or worship lord Vishnu for many many lives, visit places of pilgrimages, or scrutinizingly study the vedas but do not serve the lotus feet of the dear devotees of Lord Gauranga who are constantly absorbed in chanting, preaching and meditating upon His Holy glories and Pastimes – they shall never be able to understand or attain the transcendental abodes of Nabadwip or Vrindavan which is beyond the reach of the four vedas.

Kaivalyam narakayate tri dasa pur akasha puspayate
Durdantendriya kala sarpa patali protkhata damstrayate
Visvam purna sukhayate vidhi mahendradis ca kitayate
Yat karunya kataksa vaibhav-avatam tam Gauram eva stumah
(Chaitanya Chandramrita, text 5)

For those who have attained the merciful sidelong glance of Lord Gauranga, impersonal liberation (merging into the brahmajyoti) becomes as painful as going to hell, the heavenly cities of the demigods seem to be as trivial as mere flowers floating in the sky, the venomous and poisonous fangs of the untamable black snakes of the senses become extracted and uprooted, the whole world which is otherwise full of misery becomes full of supreme joy and the exalted positions of Brahma, Indra and all the demigods become as insignificant as those of tiny insects. Let us glorify that supremely merciful Lord Gauranga.

Yatha yatha gaura padaravinde vindeta bhaktim krta punya rasih
Tatha tathot sarpati hrdya kasmad radha padambhoja sudhambu rasih
(Chaitanya Chandramrta 88)

Extremely fortunate are those who get the mercy of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. As much as one can devote his full attention to the lotus feet of Lord Chaitanya, to that extent he will be flooded with the ocean of nectar from the lotus feet of Srimati Radharani.

Unfortunate position of Non-devotees

Bhagavad bhakti hinasya jatih sastram japas tapah
Apranasyaiva dehasya mandanam loka rajjanam
Sucih sad bhakti diptagni dagdha durjati kalmasah
Svapako pi budhaih slaghyo na vedajno pi nastikah
(Hari Bhakti sudhodaya 3.11.12)

For those who are devoid of transcendental devotion to Sri Krishna, their knowledge of scripture, Japa, and chanting of mantras, as well as their austerities are simply ornaments on a dead body. For one who takes to pure devotional service, all the reactions of his past sinful life are vanquished. In this regard, the outcast is equal to the highly learned, who also take to this path; but those who refuse to surrender, the atheists and agnostics, will remain ignorant of the real conclusions of the Vedas, and get no credit for all their study.

Pure devotion to Gauranga is the best of all

Kriyasaktan dig dig vikatatapaso dhik ca yamena
Dhiastu brahmaham vadana pariphullan jadamatin
Kimetan socamo visaya rasa mattab narapasun
Na kesanchil leso py ahaha militio gaura madhunah
(Chaitanya Chandramrta 32)

Wretched are the followers of Vedic ritual! Pathetic are the practitioners of severe austerity! Pathetic are the dull-witted fools whose mouths have blossomed with the words “I am Brahman”! Their voices are filled with flowery words of dry speculation. Why do we lament for these animals in the guise of men intoxicated by the taste of things other than Krishna? Alas! They have not tasted even a drop of the nectar from the lotus feet of Lord Gauranga.

Without devotion to Gauranga, one’s knowledge of scripture is nonsense

Achaitanyam idam visvam yadi chaitanyam isvaram
Na viduh sarva sastra-jna hyapi bhramyanti te janah
(Chaitanya Chandramrta 37)

Even though they are scholars learned in all the scriptures, those persons who will not accept that Lord Chaitanya is the Supreme Personality of Godhead must continue to wander in this lifeless world of repeated birth and death, from one planet to the next, being propelled by their pious and impious acts.

Nothing is possible without Gauranga’s mercy

Avad brahma katha vimukti padavi tavan na tikti bhavet
Tavac capi visrokhalatvamayate no loka veda sthitih
Tavac-chastra vidam mithah kalakalo nana bahir vartamastu
Sri Chaitanya padambhuja priyajano yavan na drg gocarah
(Chaitanya Chandramrta 19)

As long as one has not seen a pure devotee of Sri Gauranga, he will be engaged in tasting bitter talks about impersonal liberation.
As long as one has not seen a devotee of Lord Gauranga, he will be bound by social and Vedic conventions, blindly following formalities and traditions without comprehending their purpose.
As lone as one does not come across one of the bee-like devotees addicted to drinking the nectar from the lotus feet of Sri Gauranga, he will be forced to walk the endless circles on the twisted paths of dry Vedic scholarship, wasting valuable time in useless discussions on futile religious practices.
